Where is my Discover card accepted outside of the U.S.?
Discover cards are currently accepted in Canada, Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean at merchants displaying the Discover acceptance mark; in mainland China at merchants displaying the Discover or China UnionPay acceptance marks; and in Japan at some merchants displaying the Discover or JCB acceptance mark. You can use your card everywhere Discover cards are accepted. If a decal displaying the Discover, China UnionPay or JCB acceptance mark is not visible, you may still present your card for payment if the merchant accepts cards. Some merchants (primarily hotels) don't always display acceptance decals.
Do I need to contact Discover before using my card internationally?
Yes, you must call Customer Service at 1-800-DISCOVER (1-800-347-2683) to let us know when you’ll be traveling abroad to help ensure uninterrupted use of your Discover card.
How do I contact Customer Service when traveling outside of the U.S.?
Customer Service Representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While outside of the U.S., you can reach us by dialing +1, followed by the toll number of 801-902-3100. Please be sure to retain this number with your travel documents. This number also appears on the back of your Discover card.
When I make a purchase in a foreign currency using my card, how will it appear on my statement?
When your purchase is conducted in a foreign currency, there will be a three-line description of the card transaction on your statement:
Line 1 includes:
- Name and location of the merchant
- Amount of transaction in U.S. dollars
Line 2 includes:
- The amount of the transaction in the foreign currency
- The rate of exchange used to convert the card sale into U.S. Dollars
The exchange rate is the published rate on the processing date, which is the date the transaction was received by Discover card.
Line 3 includes:
- The 2% Foreign Currency Finance Charge which is applied to all purchases made in foreign currency.
What should I do if my card is lost or stolen while traveling abroad?
If your card is lost or stolen while traveling outside of the U.S., immediately contact Customer Service in the U.S. by dialing +1, followed by the toll number of 801-902-3100. This number also appears on the back of your Discover card. They will assist you in replacing your lost or stolen card.
Do I need a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to obtain a cash advance using my card? How do I obtain a PIN?
To obtain a cash advance at an ATM using your card, a PIN is required. A PIN is not required for cash advances that are obtained in person at a branch of a financial institution. A PIN is required to obtain a cash advance from an ATM. Click here to login and obtain your PIN.
