Discover Site Security Measures
Be safe with the most advanced security technology available.
128-bit SSL Technology
We use 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL), the industry standard for secure Internet communication. This technology encodes information sent over the Internet and keeps your information secure from the time you begin typing it at Discover.com until we receive it.
SSL protects your information, making it virtually impossible for someone else to access it. To take advantage of SSL, we recommend you use an SSL-compatible browser:
Windows
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or newer available at www.microsoft.com/windows/Internet-explorer
- Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or newer available at www.mozilla.com/firefox
- Apple Safari 4.0 or newer available at www.apple.com/safari/download
Macintosh
- Apple Safari 4.0 or newer available at www.apple.com/safari/download
- Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or newer available at www.mozilla.com/firefox

In order to take full advantage of all the features of this site, we recommend using the most recent version of one of the following browsers:
Good job! You have a compatible browser!
We're sorry. We don't recognize your browser.
Please update to a current version or try another browser.
Firewalls
A firewall is a filter used to determine whether information is allowed to travel from one network to another. Discover.com uses multiple layers of firewalls to block critical areas of our network from prying eyes.
System Monitoring
Intrusion detection devices installed throughout the site provide real-time alerts about system changes or attacks. They are monitored on a continual basis to ensure account protection 24 hours a day, 7-days a week.
Enhanced Account Security
As part of our continuing effort to strengthen account security, we ask you to select answers to a set of security questions when you log into your account. This will help ensure that only authorized users have access to your account. Here's the process we will ask you to take:
- Once logged in, select and answer security questions.
- Use answers that only you and other authorized users of your account will know, but can easily recall.
- The questions will then be used at times to verify your identity as an added layer of security.
- You can have us remember computers you generally use to access your account to minimize the occasions when we'll need to verify identity.
The security questions aren't a replacement for the user ID and password you selected when you registered for the Account Center -instead, they're additional protection for your online account. Please continue to use your user ID and password to log into the Account Center.

- 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) that encodes the personal information you send over the Internet
- Multiple firewall layers
- Active system monitoring to provide real-time alerts
Making sure you're secure when you manage your online account at Discover.com is one of our top priorities. Also our $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee ensures that you're never responsible for unauthorized usage of your Discover card.
- Do I need to log out of the Account Center?
Yes, log out by clicking the "Account Center Log Out" link at the top of the page. You'll see a new page confirming that you've logged out.
If you don't log out, others using the same computer could potentially access information saved or cached in the memory of the browser. As an extra precaution, close your browser's window before leaving the computer.
- Should I ever use my actual Discover Card number instead of a secure account number?
You are not required to use secure account numbers. However, with a few specific exceptions, we recommend using the added security of secure account numbers. You should consider using your actual Discover Card account number when a retailer requires you to show your actual plastic Discover Card to receive your purchase. This may occur with airline or movie tickets. If you are uncertain, we suggest that you contact the retailer directly.
- What should I use for my Account Center password?
A good password is easy for you to remember-but hard for somebody else to guess. Avoid using passwords that others might guess, such as a birth date, Social Security number, or pet's name.
Select passwords you'll remember, but try replacing some of the letters with numbers—"secret" might be "s1cr1t," for example.
And mix up your passwords—use different passwords at different Web sites.
