How do I use the web version of Secure Online Account Numbers?

You will be able to use the web-launched version of Secure Online Account Numbers with Mac or Windows and any browser that supports the latest version of Java. To download the web-launched version, simply follow these steps:

  4. Select "Security" and click on "Default Level" to set it to medium for this area. If you are using Internet Explorer 6 or higher, select the "Privacy" tab and set the slider bar to "Low."
  5. From the same window, select the "Advanced" tab.
  6. Scroll down the list to the "Microsoft VM" section, and expand that section to view its content. Make sure these items are checked:
    • Java Console Enabled
    • Java Logging Enabled
    • JIT Compiler Enabled
  7. Scroll down the list to the "Security" section and make sure the "Do not save encrypted files to disk" is unchecked.
  8. Click "Apply" and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
I can't log in. Why doesn't my password work?

The Secure Online Account Number User ID and password are the same as your Account Center User ID and password. If you are unable to log into Secure Online Account Numbers using your Account Center information, please check the following:

Ensure you are able to log into the Account Center with your User ID and password. If you cannot, try using your Discover Card account number instead of your User ID to verify if the password is correct.

If you can log into the Account Center with your User ID and password, but not into Secure Online Account Numbers, please verify your password has no more than ten characters. Passwords longer than ten characters may work with the Account Center, but will cause problems for the Secure Online Account Numbers feature.

To protect the security of your account, we limit the number of unsuccessful log in attempts that can occur in one day. Please allow 24 hours for Secure Online Account Numbers to reset itself if you have exceeded the allowed number of unsuccessful log in attempts.

Why doesn't Secure Online Account Numbers fill the account number?

Some sites use forms that break up an account number into four fields of four digits each, instead of a single field of 16 digits. Secure Online Account Numbers is unable to fill in the account number on these sites. To use a Secure Number for this site, please select "Form Fill" before you get to the form and use "Drag-n-Drop" to generate the Secure Number. Write the number down and enter it by hand where the Account number is requested.

Can I see my order history?

Yes, you may view as many as 50 of your past online purchases made with your secure credit card numbers.

Simply select "Past Purchases" to display your purchases. These purchases will also appear on your paper and online statements, but only the last 4 digits of the Secure Number will be printed on the paper statements.

What is Flash Player?

In order to use this feature, you must have Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer. Adobe Flash is a free Java Script program that saves a file to your computer's hard drive. The program allows the applications on our site to be "active" rather than "static."

Can I use Secure Online Account Numbers with multiple Discover Card accounts?

You can use more than one Discover Card account with this feature, however you will need to register each account separately with the Account Center and Secure Online Account Numbers. Each registered Discover Card will have its own user ID and password.

How do I enable cookies?

Cookies must be enabled to use Secure Online Account Numbers. To enable cookies on your computer, please do the following:

  1. Click on your "Start" button and select "Control Panel."
  2. Locate and double-click on "Internet Options" (or "Network and Internet Connections" and then "Internet Options.")
  3. Click on the "Privacy" tab.
  4. Set the slide bar to "Medium High" or lower, and then select the "Sites" button.
  5. In "Address of Web site" enter Discovercard.com and select "Allow."
  6. Click "OK" on both pages.
  7. Close the Control Panel.
How do I disable Auto Launch?

To disable the Auto Launch feature, please right click on the Secure Online Account Number icon in your system tray (on the bottom right side of your screen), then select preferences. Finally, uncheck the box asking if you want Secure Online Account Numbers to automatically launch.
