What is a Discover eGift Card?

A Discover eGift Card is a prepaid stored value card that can only be used for purchases online, over the telephone or by mail-order at the millions of U.S. locations that accept Discover Network Cards. Instead of a plastic gift card, recipients are given a gift card number, which can be printed or saved as a pdf file. The Discover eGift Card cannot be used to access cash, except as required by law, and where an authorization may be attempted for an amount that exceeds the value of the card.

How is the Discover eGift Card different from other gift cards?

The Discover eGift Card is not a plastic card. It is a virtual card with a card number that can be picked up online and can only be used for purchases online, over the telephone or by mail-order.

Do Discover eGift Cards expire?

Your card does not contain an expiration date and, therefore, the available funds on your card will never expire. The front of your eGift Card visual shows a valid thru date, three years from the purchase date. After the valid thru date, your available funds will be temporarily unavailable until you contact Customer Service for a free replacement card with a new valid thru date. You need to provide your eGift Card number in order to receive your replacement card. Also, after 12 months of consecutive inactivity on the eGift Card, Discover Card will begin to assess a $2.50 monthly servicing fee. Discover Card will not assess the servicing fee if there is any activity on the card within a 12-month period.

Using Your Discover Gift Card

How do I activate my Discover eGift Card?

Click on the link embedded within the email sent to you by Discover eGift Card. You will be required to fill in all the information requested, and after submission your card will be automatically activated. This is to ensure you are the intended recipient. Your information will not be used for Discover Gift Card marketing unless you opt-in during activation. Do not wait to activate your eGift Card. If you do not do so within 30 days, your eGift Card will be cancelled and the value will be refunded to the purchaser.

Why do I need to activate my eGift Card?

Discover Card requires that you activate your eGift Card for several reasons: 1) we double check to ensure you are the intended recipient; 2) activation ensures we will recognize you should you need to report a lost or stolen card to Customer Service; and 3) many online merchants require your card to be registered with your name and billing address in order to process transactions online.

Why do I need a login and password?

Your login and password will enable you to retrieve your card number, valid thru date and 3-digit code in the event you lose them. Your unique login and password will also allow you to check your eGift Card balance for free, anytime at www.discoveregiftcard.com/login.

Are there any additional fees associated with my Discover eGift Card?

Yes, if the eGift Card is not used for 12 consecutive months after registration, Discover Card will assess a $2.50 servicing fee per month. This fee will not be deducted if there is any activity on the card within a 12-month timeframe. Subject to applicable law, Discover Card will deduct a $5.00 card replacement fee from your available funds in the event you request a replacement card for lost or stolen card. There is no charge to receive a replacement card after your valid thru date has passed.

Your eGift Card number may be given to anyone you wish, including individuals under the age of 18. However, balances from several gift cards cannot be consolidated on to one card, nor can balances from one gift card be transferred to another.

Stolen Cards

What if someone steals my Discover eGift Card or uses it without my permission?

Treat your card the same as you would treat cash. Discover Card is not responsible for lost or stolen gift cards. If you notify Discover Card that your eGift Card has been lost or stolen, you may recover only the balance remaining on the gift card at the time of contact, less the applicable $5.00 fee.

Returns Using Your Discover Gift Card

How do I return merchandise bought with my Discover eGift Card?

Merchants will credit your returns, subject to their return policy, back to the eGift Card used to make the purchase. For this reason, it is very important you keep your eGift Card and receipts. Funds credited by a merchant will be available approximately 3 days after the return is processed.
